Induction and Orientation 2016

Induction often forms the students' first experience of an institution. It plays a critical role in shaping student perceptions of what an institute has to offer. It also helps to settle down students.

St. John Technical Campus organized “Induction and Orientation” programme on 22nd August 2016 to welcome all newly admitted First Year students of the Academic Year 2016-17 of St. John College of Engineering and Management (SJCEM), St. John Institute of Pharmacy and Research (SJIPR) and St. John Polytechnic.

The function was presided by Most Rev. Bishop Eugene Joseph - Bishop of Varanasi Diocese. The Chief Guest of the program was Dr. Aloysius Sequeira – Professor and Head – School of Management National Institute of Technology, Surathkal, Mangalore.

The Induction Officers invited for the event were Mr. Vivek Mendonsa (Marketing Director – Lawrence and Mayo) and Mr. Adrian Rosario (HR Consultant and Trainer).

Mr. Albert W. D’Souza- Chairman of Aldel Education Trust, Mrs. Elvina D’Souza - Secretary of Aldel Education Trust, Mrs. Elaine Buthello-D’Souza – Treasurer, Mr. Reuben Buthello - Member of Aldel Education Trust, Mr. Thomas Lobo - Campus Director, Dr. Satish Takalikar- Principal of SJCEM, Dr. Savita Tauro - Principal of SJIPR were also present on the occasion. Around 700 new students and new joined faculty attended the function.

The event was well compered by the students Ms. Mridula Iyer from T. Y. B. Pharm. and Ms. Sushma Shetty from (T.Y EXTC). The session started with the St. Francis prayer, after which the lamp was lit and Saraswati Vandana was recited by all. Sr. Severine Crasta said a special prayer and blessed the gathering. There was a short video presentation featuring the highlights of the multidisciplinary institutes, their activities and achievements right since the inception of the Campus in 2008.

The Chairman, Secretary and Campus Director welcomed the dignitaries with bouquets and mementoes. After the talk by Chairman and Advisor, the dignitaries were introduced by the Principal of SJCEM and SJIPR respectively.

The students were then addressed by the dignitaries on the various aspects of their professional education which they are now beginning at St. John Technical Campus. Dr. Aloysius Sequeira addressed the gathering on humility, modesty, motivation, self-confidence and optimism. He advised them to develop interest to learn new things and to compete with themselves instead of others. He also explained them the difference between yesterday, today and tomorrow. Yesterday has no “o” letter so zero opportunity, today has 1 “o” letter i.e. 1 opportunity whereas tomorrow as 3 “o” letters which means 3 opportunities.

Most Rev. Bishop Eugene Joseph inspired the crowd with his thoughts on resilience, education, harmony, students as the nation builders and leaders of tomorrow.

A student from S.Y. Engineering, Mr. Jay Dhavne welcomed the freshers and shared his experience in the campus. The First Year faculty members were introduced to the students and felicitated with rosebuds. The new students were also presented a gift as a sign of welcome to the St. John family.

The Induction programme for engineering, pharmacy and management students was conducted by Mr. Vivek Mendonsa and for diploma students it was conducted by Mr. Adrian Rosario. The induction sessions were interactive and the students enjoyed being a part of it.
